So it’s been almost a year since I’ve posted!!!! Yikes! A lot has happened in the last year so I won’t bore you with ALL the details !). Most notably though is that I’ve spent a redonkoulous (word press is telling me this isn’t a word!) amount of time making beats. I applied to the Red Bull music academy back in the Spring and haven’t stopped making music since then. No I didn’t get into the Academy, but it’s all good cuz the real reason I applied is b/c I knew that it would get me focused on my music (which is exactly what happened.) So I’ve really been spending a lot of time thinking about what I really want to do as an artist and performer. I’m a good DJ, but showing up and rocking other peoples tracks all night is not as satisfying as it was. I’ll continue to DJ b/c I still love it and it’s a damn fun way to make money, but what I want to do is be a beat performer. I think I can add a turntablist flava to the performance as well, but I still have some work to do to get ready. Stay tuned b/c I’ll be chatting about the process some more on here and would love to hear your feedback!

So it was a Dance party like I hoped it would be, but my pictures suck! It’s definitely time to buy a new camera. I need one that does better in low level lighting. Any feedback on this would be well appreciated! So back to the party. It was my first time to play at this place and I had lots of fun. As usual I played a wide range of music. I played more Hood than usual, but it was right and necessary and therefore fun. I was also in good spirits for no apparent reason, so I had fun even when playing a genre that I don’t play a lot of…….
. In between all this I played some Funk, Baltimore Club, 90′s Hip-Hop, and straight Electro. At one point Austin’s own Zeale came up and rocked the Mic for hot minute. After everyone else started coming up to get on it the boss had me shut down the emcee’s and get back to the cuts. All in all, the peeps were up dancin’ “so you can run and tell that! Homeboy!” I’m out!

Let me start by saying these peeps know how to throw a party! There was bacon wrapped chicken, steak, booze, and other goods that I can’t recall in this moment. It was on the 3rd floor of the Austin Club, which for those of you that don’t know is an exlusive club of sorts that a DJ of my type probably doesn’t play at very often. The bartender upstairs told me that an orchestra was playing downstairs and that their party was over at midnight if that tells you anything. Regardless our party got crunk. There was probably a half dozen times when I had to ask everyone to stop jumping around b/c my needles kept skipping
.
At the begining of the party on of the host’s told me to “keep it funky.” I thought that this literally meant that I would be playing lots of funk and soul especially since Vinyl Richie referred me! I did play some James Brown, Greyboy Allstars, and Sharon Jones early on, but these did not carry the party into the floor shaking third hour. It was Justin Timberlake, Pink, Eazy-E, and Outkast that did this for me. Oh and lets not forget Antione Dotson! I mention in one of my last post that this was the song of 2010 and that turned out to be true at this party! Most people appeared to be drunk and happy at the end and I received lots of handshakes and hi-fives. Awesome party guys! Remember the crowd makes the party as much or more than the DJ! Until next time!

So this was a fun show! I got to play lots of Downtempo, Trip-Hop, Funk, and Hip-Hop which and most peeps seemed to be real into it. The set wasn’t technically as good as I played a Vivo the week before (I didn’t practice as much
), but no one seemed to notice or care. I like being around other artist, probably b/c I consider myself as one. The furniture was all really funky and cool. Nothing had prices if that tells you anything. I will post pictures of my favorites up here. I will also get more pictures from the hosts to put up here later. They had a much better camera than my crappy little power shot, or whatever in the hell it is! I suppose I could go on, but there is so much more to say even know………….. there really isn’t anything that needs to be said.

Alrighty so I hear that DJ Spooky is in town and he’s gonna rock Aces Lounge on Friday night. I round up one of my Turntablist buddies and we set off for what I think is going to be an awesome show. I’ve gotta say that I was pretty disappointed. The opening acts were all pretty good. Especially Zeale and Rockwell. I got see my boy Rockwell rock it with a rapper for the first time and they both killed it. The DJ before them was pretty good, but he played a lot of top 40 remixes which got old fast. At least he was actually mixing the songs together though. I can’t say the same for Spooky. The two chicks before this guy (sorry I can’t remember any of these peoples names, and it’s one of those situations were the names I was hearing on stage weren’t matching the ones on the flyer….) really killed it, but I wasn’t real into the music. It’s always good to see someone get up there and do their thing. Spooky on the other hand appeared to be playing a mix off of his IPhone, which may be his thing, but it wasn’t very much fun to watch. He was switching CD’s in and out of his two CDJ’s, but it looked like was just playing weird samples over his “live” mix-tape. I didn’t stick around too much longer to see if he actually started mixing b/c I was already bored to tears. On the other hand I met a really cool dude named Nick that is on a road trip around the country. At first I thought he was Rockwell and quickly found out that he wasn’t. He was like “naw dude I’m Nick.” I felt pretty dumb for a moment but ended up making a new friend. Good luck to you Nick on your adventure around the country!

My First Flyer
It was a fun and successful night at Vivo on Manor. It was my first time to hold down the room all by myself and it went well. Early in the night I played lots of Down-Tempo, Trip-Hop, and other Electronic jams. I also brought some old Funk 45′s which I shared some of with the crowd. Of course late was when I hit em’ with my 90′s Hip-Hop jams that everyone seems to love no matter where I go. I had more than a half dozen friends show up which was fun. Thank you Facebook! I’ve included pictures of all these for our enjoyment. I also recorded most of the show(I messed up and lost the last 30 minutes or because I was really tired at the end of the set, doh!!!!) I may or may not put it up here after I listen to it. I will let you all know. Thanks for stopping by.
